Are you familiar with I4C2 and Birdseye? They're 2 pieces of commercial property, both on the water, almost in downtown Gloucester, one owned by the City and one by developer Beauport Gloucester LLC (Jim Davis - Gloucester resident/founder New Balance). They've both been vacant and unused for years because of zoning/use restrictions and FINALLY some changes are in the works. The Birdseye property (yes, as in "Clarence Birdseye" of frozen food fame) is on Commercial Street and borders a neighborhood known as "The Fort". Fort residents have taken a NIMBY stance on the developer's plans that, to many Gloucester residents, is a gift to the city: a hotel on the beach. The presentation at city hall Monday has been extended until tonight. Let's hope the Gloucester City Council follows Mayor Caroyn Kirk's lead and approves the zoning change.
